STEM-C, Makerspaces & Science Exploration

At LISA Academy, innovation is at the heart of our educational philosophy. Through our STEM-C (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Computing) curriculum, state-of-the-art Makerspaces, and the annual Arkansas STEM Festival, we provide students with dynamic, hands-on learning experiences that foster creativity, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving skills.

STEM-C Curriculum: Building Tomorrow's Innovators

Our STEM-C program integrates science, technology, engineering, math, and computing across all grade levels, from Kindergarten through 12th grade. This comprehensive approach ensures that students develop a strong foundation in these critical areas, preparing them for success in the rapidly evolving technological landscape.
Key components of the STEM-C curriculum include:
  • Project Lead the Way (PLTW) and Career Pathways: Offering courses in engineering, biomedical science, and computer science to provide students with real-world applications of STEM-C concepts.
  • Advanced Placement (AP) Courses: Providing college-level coursework in subjects like AP Computer Science, AP Biology, and AP Calculus to challenge students and prepare them for higher education.
  • Concurrent Credit Opportunities: Allowing students to earn college credit while still in high school through partnerships with universities.

The Arkansas STEM Festival: Showcasing Student Innovation

The Arkansas STEM Festival is an annual event hosted by LISA Academy to celebrate and promote STEM-C education. This free, public event brings together students, educators, and STEM professionals for a day of exploration and discovery.

Highlights of the festival include:

  • Student-Led Projects: Students have the opportunity to present their STEM projects, demonstrating their learning and creativity.
  • Interactive Exhibits: Over 100 hands-on stations allow attendees to engage with various STEM concepts and technologies.
  • Awards and Recognition: Outstanding projects are recognized with awards, encouraging students to continue pursuing their interests in STEM fields.

The festival serves as a platform for students to showcase their work, gain exposure to STEM careers, and inspire the next generation of innovators.

LISA Academy Makerspace

Our campus-based Makerspaces serve as hubs for creativity and innovation, providing students with the tools and resources to bring their ideas to life. These collaborative spaces encourage design thinking, problem-solving, and hands-on learning.
Features of our Makerspaces include:
  • 3D Printing and Design: Students can create prototypes and models, enhancing their understanding of design and engineering principles.
  • Coding and Robotics: With resources like Micro:bit, Arduino, and Tello drones, students engage in programming and robotics projects that develop their computational thinking skills.
  • Engineering Challenges: Activities like LEGO Spike and TeacherGeek challenges promote teamwork and engineering design processes.
  • Digital Fabrication Tools: Access to equipment such as laser cutters and CNC machines allows students to explore advanced manufacturing techniques.

Our Makerspaces are open to students across all grade levels, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.

Science Labs

Our science labs provide students with the opportunity to conduct experiments, explore scientific concepts, and develop critical thinking skills. These labs are equipped with modern tools and resources to support inquiry-based learning in subjects such as biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science.
